Kathryn & Sam, engaged

I've known Kathryn for a few years, after I met her (and Sam) at her sister's wedding. When she and Sam became engaged earlier this year, they called to book me. We made these engagement portrait (and some others) a few months ago. Everyone is excited for their wedding next year, and I'm honored to be making photographs for their families again.

Amy & Alex, engaged

These two are a wonderful couple marrying this fall.  We spent some time together in their hometown while Alex was on leave (he serves in the US Coast Guard) to make some portraits.

Jessica + Kevin, engaged

Jessica & Kevin are fellow alumni of Saint Anselm College, where they met running cross country, and they were returning to campus for an alumni race the following day. It was most fitting, then, that we return to those trails on campus for some engagement portraits.  The fall weather and light was perfect, and we ended the day with some photographs that will serve as their save-the-date cards (those are a surprise--not posted here).

Our session was relaxed and pleasant, and we discussed life after school, reading the great books, and their upcoming wedding.  I'm excited to share their wedding day with them next summer.

Jessica + Tony

In honor of their wedding tomorrow, here are some photos of Jessica and Tony taken a few weeks ago at Fort Foster in Maine. We had stunning light and stayed until they kicked us out.

Jamie + Jim

...are to be married on Saturday. We met about a month ago to review some details, and I convinced them to go outside (in freezing temps and wind) for just a few minutes to make some portraits in the late day sun. I'm glad they agreed--the temperatures will be even colder on their wedding day.

an engagement

Congratulations to my sister Marissa and her now fiancé Daniel, who became engaged on Saturday night. The entire family (especially Cecilia, my eldest daughter, who instantly claimed her birthright as flower girl) is excited for this development. I'll be posting some photos from a session we had over the summer (we did visit them in Albany in May); in the meantime, I spent a few minutes with them today to photograph the ring:

Shannon + Dave

Shannon and Dave celebrated their wedding last month, but I wanted to post these photos and tell the story of how we met first. In April 2007, Jessica and I were at The Cliff House in Maine for a weekend conference. We had just sat down at the restaurant overlooking the coast at sunset, and I noticed Shannon and Dave sitting next to us. They're about our age and were dressed up, and I was compelled to ask them if I could photograph them (which did not come easily to me). They were there celebrating their engagement and scoping out the place as a wedding location. Shannon was understandably hesitant (and even thought that Dave had planned this), but Dave was willing--primarily because his camera battery had died, and they really wanted some photos of themselves there.

He was able to convince her, and we agreed to meet in 30 minutes. I ran back to my room to grab my Canon 10D and 50mm 1.8 (my sharpest lens at the time), and then tried to calm my nerves. We had unbelievable light as we climbed the rocks for 20-30 minutes and simply had a great session. I don't know that I've ever met anyone who were as comfortable in front of the camera.

Among other things that resulted from this meeting (besides asking me to photograph their wedding), the first photo below is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks again to Shannon and Dave, whose trust and willingness to help had a tremendous effect on what I'm doing today.

Christina + Sean

Christina and Sean were engaged just prior to when she began working at Saint Anselm College. As we became friends (along with my kids, who loved visiting her), we talked about me photographing her wedding. We started with an engagement session, which was last year (pre-blog). With the wedding being tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time to post some of them:

Laura + Chris

Laura and Ryan contacted me just a few months ago to discuss photographing their wedding, which is now less than two weeks away. The engagement session was postponed a few times due to weather, but we had a great time at Massabesic Lake.

My favorites are below; see the gallery for more.
